Packing Tips

Moving day is quickly approaching, and it is time to start packing up all your belongings into to boxes for the big day. It can be difficult to know where to start, how to pack, and where to put precious things that need to be well taken care of. There are all kinds of small little items that have to be moved with out spilling, leaking, and breaking.

One of the first things to be finish is buying all the packing material and boxes in advance. It can be very frustrating to start packing only to realize you do not have enough boxes or tape. It is also important to remember the bubble wrap or paper for the breakable things through out your home. You do not want to get to your new location to find many important things broken.

While packing you should label all boxes, so that you know where they will go once you are at your new location. This way it will be a lot easier to unload the truck and put everything in the right place. It will save time telling everyone what room your belongings should be placed in. If you have boxes that should not be turn up side down, this would be a good time to label those as well. Packed boxes should not weight over 50 pounds.

Heavier items should be place on the bottom. All boxes should be able to be tape close. You do not want any boxes that are too full and stuff is falling out of them. Smaller items should be place in small boxes, and then place into the larger boxes. This will make it easier to keep track of everything.

Any bottle holding a liquid should be taped shut and placed into plastic bags. This will prevent any kind of leaking that might happen. They should also be placed in the box in an upright position. You do not want to open a box of toiletries to find that everything is covered with soap.

Some other tips for packing are to keep all clothing in dresser drawers. This will save time when it comes to unpacking. When moving furniture, it can be helpful to tape the screws or nails to the under side. Remember to place any necessary tools that you will need to reassemble your furniture in a separate box. You do not want to have to hunt down your tool box when you arrive. You can also place linen such as socks in the small spaces of the boxes. It will help keep the number of boxes down along with adding more padding to your things.

While you are packing, you should make a list of all the boxes that you are going to be shipping through the moving company. This will help if any of your things come up missing. It will make it easier to claim later on. You will also want to take any personal papers with you not the moving company.
